Suzuki Swift Named 2018 World Car of The Year
Great pride comes from being recognised as one of the best. It’s something that Suzuki strives toward in every step, from manufacturing to ownership. For this year, a great achievement is celebrated as the Suzuki Swift is one of three finalists as the 2018 World Car of the Year.
What is the 2018 World Car of the Year About?
Automotive journalists from all over the world have developed the World Car of the Year awards. It recognises high-quality models in different categories that are available on at least two continents.
The Suzuki Swift qualifies for the Urban Car category in the 2018 World Car of the Year awards. To be eligible as an urban car, vehicles must be under four metres in length and designed to be suitable for everyday use in an urban environment. And, to qualify as World Urban Car, entrants must be on sale on two continents or more by the spring deadline.
It’s the second time Suzuki has been in the top three. World Car of the Year Vice-Chair, Mike Rutherford, says, "Suzuki has again seen off many rival manufacturers from all corners of the globe to become a 2018 World Car finalist. This is the second year in a row that Suzuki has won enough votes to become a Top three contender - and deservedly so.”
What Makes the Suzuki Swift an Excellent Urban Car
Like all Suzuki cars, the Suzuki Swift embodies efficiency and affordability. The Swift is also well-suited to an urban environment with safety technology that rivals the best.
The 2018 Suzuki Swift makes the cut for the Urban Car category at just 3.84 metres in length. Its’ compact design makes the Swift ideal for traveling through busy urban streets and parking virtually anywhere.
Yet, despite its small exterior, the Suzuki Swift has a luggage capacity of up to 579 litres. The interior is spacious for passengers and well equipped with the latest technology.
You have options when the Suzuki Swift is your choice in small cars. Choose the 90PS 1.2-litre Dualjet petrol engine for an efficient and sporty drive, also available with ALLGRIP four-wheel drive. Or, for extra zip, choose the 1.0-litre Boosterjet turbocharged petrol engine. Select your Swift with SHVS – Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki – for emissions that drop to just 97g/km.
The Suzuki Swift is perfectly positioned as an urban car with the latest in driver-assistive safety technology. The Swift SZ5 model offers Dual Sensor Brake Support, a system that uses a camera and sensor behind the windscreen to identify slower-moving traffic ahead of you, and brakes automatically if a collision seems imminent. It also features Lane Departure Warning and Weave Alert using the same camera technology, notifying the driver when you’re leaving your lane markings.
